Mechanical keyboards have been around for decades, but in recent years they have seen a resurgence in popularity, particularly among developers. In this post, we will explore the history of mechanical keyboards and why they have become a go-to choice for many developers.

The first mechanical keyboards were introduced in the 1970s, and were primarily used in typing and data entry environments. These early mechanical keyboards featured individual mechanical switches for each key, which provided a tactile feedback and a satisfying “click” sound with each keystroke. This was in contrast to the rubber dome keyboards that were prevalent at the time, which did not have the same level of tactile feedback and required more force to actuate.

However, as technology advanced and computers became more affordable, rubber dome keyboards began to dominate the market. They were cheaper to manufacture and less noisy, making them a popular choice for both home and office use.

But for many developers and enthusiasts, the lack of tactile feedback and audible click was a deal breaker. They missed the feeling of typing on a mechanical keyboard.
